What Should Talli Wear?

You probably wouldn't guess it looking at my over-stuffed wardrobe (hey, it's tiny), but I am so not a shopper. I like new clothes, but the process of buying them? Not so much.

I'm a bit out of practise, too. I went through a few very lean years where my monthly expendable income was about £15 and one trip to Primark to buy black socks pretty much blew the budget. Then, working from home, the allure of magical new outfits to take the sting from the work day was no longer necessary. I was more concerned with fuzzy warm socks than swanky shoes.

However, every once in a while, a glamorous occasion reared its pretty head, requiring a trip to the shops. This time, it's the Romantic Novelists' Association Summer Party, coming up in mid-May. While technically, I need a new dress like (insert clever simile here), it's a little treat to myself after years of austerity.

But sadly, that requires shopping. While Mr TR likes to peruse the wares for hours (not kidding. Hours!), I prefer the hit and run method. In fact, I've even been known to time myself at Notting Hill Tesco to see how fast I can get in and out! What can I say, a challenge makes buying stale bread that much more enjoyable.

So, to help me prepare, I'm conducting a little poll and I'd very much appreciate your input.

What Should Talli Wear?

a. Red trousers with a powder-blue top
 b. Floral jumpsuit with padded shoulders in the style of the eighties
c. Nothing. Going out nude in London is en vogue at the moment.
d. Regency dress.
e. A lobster costume to celebrate her heritage.
f. A lovely floaty summery dress.

I look forward to your answers. Happy Wednesday, everyone!

And before I go, lovely blogger Clarissa Draper's book is out now! Hop on over to the 'Zon and get it quick. It looks fab!

  2. Just in case the paps are out in force, I'd pop on the floaty floral dress. You never know when the lobster outfit will come back to haunt you!
    Have a lovely May day!

I'd go with F. It's a romance summer party after all.

  6. LOL. I enjoyed this post, Talli. I have to say I'm not a big fan of shopping these days especially on a tight budget and with the kids in tow.

About your outfit, it's between a and f. But I'm not sure if you're a floaty summery dress kinda girl. :)

  7. I'm tempted to say C, just to witness it! But I'd go with Ellie and opt for A!

  8. F is calling to me, it feels like a floaty dress occasion! Whatever you wear, have a lovely time!

  9. Whatever you choose, be sure to accessorise with a bow tie.

  11. While starkers is a very close second, I'd go with the floaty summer dress. You never know, we might get some actual sunshine.

Chop the Regency number off just above the knee: hey ho you're retro 70s A-line look... ;) Twwwwendy...

  13. Red trousers and the powder blue top! But disappointed a chicken suit wasn't on the list - oh yes, that's what I'm wearing! First party as a full member - first time ejected LOL!

  14. As much as I'd love to see a photo of you in a lobster suit (LOL), I'd go with f. And if I lived closer, I'd shop with you! :D

  15. I'm going to go with Lobster, so long as it's both thermal and waterproof. Summer's on its way, so it's best to be prepared for the cold and the rain.

    ReplyDelete
  16. F...and bring a lobster for your purse, or wear it on your dress like a corsage. :) I'm sure you'll look divine no matter what you wear.

  17. I'm thinking c, but then again...I'm crazy. So don't listen to me!

  18. Either B or F, Talli - you'll look fab. I'm in the skint stage at moment and am having a clothes sale. Sad you're not in Bristol! xxx

  19. Dress like Marilyn Monroe; you know, Willow Watts style. :)

  20. Go with the summer dress.

And your husband likes to shop for clothes? My husband is more of the 'go out - shoot deer - bring home -feed family' variety. Get what he needs and get out of there quickly.

    No question. :-)

  22. I say A! Am I the only one that likes red trousers?? tee hee! Just kidding...I have to say F. Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Back again with the red trousers, eh? C is always an option, but only after a bottle of wine.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lobster, definitely! Though I do love a good floaty summer dress, too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I really want to say lobster, because that's the most romantic, but what if this occasion includes a nice dinner and there's lobster on the table? Would you make people uncomfortable and ashamed to eat it for fear of hurting your feelings? Maybe the summer dress would be a safer choice ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, I'd like to choose the regency dress, but will plump for F, in the hope you have a sunny day! And I so wish I was going, but will have to wait until the Penrith conference.

    ReplyDelete
  27. As much as I would love you to dress as anything from A-E, I think I will have to say the summer dress. Call me boring.

    ReplyDelete
  28. well, the summer dress is tempting, but i'm going to have to go with the regency dress

    ReplyDelete
  29. RED TROUSERS, obviously!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't enjoy wearing dresses that much, but I guess I'd go with the summer dress. It's getting warmer out, so why not? It's that or the lobster costume! lol, have a great day :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Floaty summery dress for me, Talli. Or rather, for you, should I say - lol :) x x

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think f is probably your best option, although I think that e would no doubt get you noticed more!

    ReplyDelete
  33. My hubby likes shopping more than I do too. Weird. I vote for F, obviously. May you find something ravishing that's on a great sale.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Naked!
Wait, did I say that out loud?
And I don't like shopping either.

    ReplyDelete
  35. FFF, and come shopping with me Talli. All my friends love to shop with me because apparently I have a good eye.;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'll say go for the summery dress :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm going with 'F'! Check out online store at www.getmyfashion.com if you can't bring yourself to leave your flat - they have some beautiful pieces!!! Lx

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was initially thinking the Regency dress, but I really think the summery dress would be better. Whatever you wear, I know you'll look beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  39. C, of course!

What, there's no G? Black slacks, black shirt, black duster jacket, black fedora, black sunglasses...

    ReplyDelete
  40. You crack me up! I'm thinking a summery dress would be nice. Now you'll have to show us pics of what you decide. Hope you have a wonderful time! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Whatever you wear Talli I'm sure you'll be the Belle of the Ball.

    Yvonne.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hmm. I'd say F.

Keep us posted on what you do end up wearing. :)

  43. Talli, I gotta go with Ellie on A.

  44. I'll go with the last choice. F.

  45. I vote F or C. You got it, flaunt it. =D

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'll go with F. Floaty sounds fun! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think if I voted for a wardrobe choice (as a member of fashion clueless), it would certainly contaminate the sample. Perhaps, my vow should equate to a -10 point selection. In that case, I'll go C and say birthday suit.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I vote for the floaty summery dress....with yellow flowers.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Your asking me? I have some problems with colors and sometimes my wife has to tell me I don't match...

    1. Talli, my instinct is telling me you are a jeans person (like myself), I'd go with the jumpsuit, some really nice ones out there. Have fun!! My son's communion is coming up and I'm in the same boat:)

  50. A summery dress would be nice but you may need to accessorise with wellies and mac if this weather continues...

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think F is the best choice.

I almost picked A, because I remember your red trousers post.

    ReplyDelete
  52. A floaty summery dress with a fine pashmina in case it's cool and a jacket if it's cold - well, that's what I'm going for for my daughter's July wedding . . .

    ReplyDelete
  53. The summer dress sounds just great! Even if it doesn't particulalry feel like summer... It's great to be positive, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  54. You've got a REGENCY DRESS? Holy smokes, why are you even asking what to wear? It is a truth universally acknowledged... However, maybe you were just kidding about the Regency outfit. So I vote for C.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I quite like A, actually, I could see that look working really well on you. And of course, the floaty dress is also an option, it's romantic, it's swishy, it's perfect for our lovely warm spring... *puts on heater, extra jumper, fingerless gloves*

    ReplyDelete
  56. Definitely the lobster! With a Canadian flag pin!! ... or, you know, a floaty summer dress! :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. It was cooking hot today so I'm feeling the floaty summer thingy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You'll look fabulous in the floaty summer dress! Do we get to vote on your shoes tomorrow? Julie

    ReplyDelete
  59. A floaty summer dress, but then going nude may get you in the newspapers and then on Daybreak, you may be asked to chat to Lorraine on why you made that choice of attire. Next you' ll be asked to appear on This Morning to speak to Phil and Holly. They say there's no such thing as bad publicity, you could mention your books a big Hollywood producer might be watching, he'll read your books and want to buy the film rights and... Yeah go with the nude look!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. If the weather is cool, lobster - you don't want to boil after all.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Definitely F .... although the lobster costume would make quite a splash! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mm, naked with the temps you have at the moment might not be a good idea!

    Def a floaty dress.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oooh I wish you'd posted pictures of the options (well not ALL of them :-D) I am gonna say F. I know you gonna look great Talli.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hee hee. Nice one Talli.

I was wondering whether you would be happy to put up a link in my brand new monthly series called “Books You Love”. The idea is for people to link up posts about a book they loved – it doesn’t have to be one they just posted about. It could be an old fave. I am hoping we will end up with a nice collection of books that can go on our reading lists. Here is the link Books You Loved May Edition

  65. I would add my vote to the Fs but judging from the weather I experienced in London on my visit home last week, I will vote for Regency dress with those Primark socks :)

Being on a tight budget (read student) myself for sometime now I haven't a clue what to wear to our end of year art exhibition at college on Friday.
